There are some places in life one feels lucky to get to once. Now we were on our 3rd visit to Ushuaia and it was just as beautiful as ever. We had a week to kill before a cruise – time to go beagling!

Exploring East Falkland, Falkland Islands (December 2025)
Most people experience the Falkland Islands as part of a cruise itinerary, a day or two at the most. However if you can cope with the crackpot immigration system, a more immersive visit is worth the effort, especially if the 1982 War is of interest. Add a few penguins on the side and our 3 weeks of exploring East Falkland flew by.
Continue readingExploring Northern Tierra del Fuego, Argentina (November 2025)
The northern part of Argentinian Tierra del Fuego is quite tiny in the grand scheme of things and not an obvious destination yet there are several places of interest if you seek them out!i
Continue readingExploring Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile (January 2026)
years previously we had hiked the ‘O’ circuit – now we were back in Torres del Paine for a more relaxed visit with a hire car. After a week of reconnaissance, they fought a major battle on 11/12th June. We decided to follow in their hallowed footsteps.
Continue readingExploring Port Howard, West Falkland, Falkland Islands (December 2025).
There were no hire cars available for West Falklands so we merely dipped a toe in: a couple of nights in Port Howard where the cross island ferry berthed. Scenic walks, war memorabilia and the best cafe in the islands – we loved it!
Continue readingHiking on the Mitre Peninsula, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina (November 2025)
It is walking like nowhere on earth, at the very ends of the earth. It is gnarly, unsigned and challenging – but the wilderness and views on the Mitre Peninsula at the very tip of Tierra del Fuego are unique. Be prepared to get very, very muddy….
Continue readingExploring Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina (November 2025)
A 2 day stop over in Buenos Aires gave us a chance to catch our breath and enjoy the leafy cafe culture of trendy Palermo, amongst others delights – giant otters anyone?!
Continue readingNew York, USA (November 2025)
We only touched on the Big Apple on a recent visit to New York but went from the sombre – the 911 memorial – to the sublime on the High Line and on Roosevelt Island. Love it or hate it, you will never be bored in New York.
