In the Footsteps of 45 Commando: A Walk across the Falkland Islands (December 2025)

This was one walk where I couldn’t whinge! Originally yomped in the Falklands war of 1982 by 45 Commando on their way from Port San Carlos to the Two Sisters, they covered 56 miles in 3 days of walking, carrying 36 kilo loads. After a week of reconnaissance, they fought a major battle on 11/12th June. We decided to follow in their hallowed footsteps.

Unalaska, Aleutian Islands, Alaska, USA (July 2025)

Unalaska forms part of the Aleutian Islands and has a colourful history of native Alaskans, Russian occupation and WW2 defences. Today it is the fishing powerhouse of America. Allied with plentiful marine and animal life, it is a fascinating place to explore by car and foot and best of all: no bears!

When heading north from Tenterfield, NSW, towards Queensland, the Mount Lindsay Highway offers a scenic alternative to the main road. There are some quirky stops en route, a giant pebble and a fabulous swimming hole.
